Why KVA

The work comes first

Collectors, curators and journalists open a gallery's website to see the works, discover the artists and find out what is on show. The site therefore has to give the images room, be easy to update and lead to an enquiry. That is why our art gallery websites are built around the artist pages, with biography and works, and the programme of exhibitions and fairs. You update them yourselves from the admin panel, without going through us for every new work.

Since 2016 we have delivered eight projects in the art world. For a long-established gallery in Lugano we organised more than 150 artists into an A–Z catalogue; for another, every work has its title, year, medium, dimensions and a direct link to request information. For a gallery then in London, now in Lugano, we rebuilt the site after three years, with full-screen images for exhibitions and fairs and a viewing room. We also designed the personal website of an art dealer, with an archive of exhibitions, catalogues and fairs, and that of a curator and essayist, with publications, exhibitions and a biography in Italian and English.

Every site starts with a custom, understated design that reflects the gallery's identity: refined typography, large images with dedicated versions for computers and phones, few menu items. We build it on our own WordPress theme and train the staff online to add artists, works and exhibitions. After launch we take care of the server in Europe, backups and updates for a fixed yearly fee; the domain stays in the gallery's name.

FAQ

Common questions

The questions galleries, dealers and curators ask us most often: costs, managing artists and works, languages, online sales, exhibitions and fairs, subscription platforms and working abroad.

Another question? Write to us

How much does an art gallery website cost?

A brochure site of up to 8 pages in one or two languages, with a small catalogue of artists, costs from €2,500 to €4,500 excluding VAT. With a large catalogue, an exhibition archive or three or more languages it moves up to a multi-page site, from €4,500 to €9,000; online sales of works, editions or catalogues run from €5,000 to €15,000. A one-page site for an artist or a curator starts at €1,600; hosting and maintenance are a fixed yearly fee.

Can we add artists, works and exhibitions ourselves?

Yes. From the admin panel the gallery staff add and remove artists, works and exhibitions by filling in a few fields, such as title, year, medium and dimensions, and uploading the images. After launch we train your staff online; it is the system we built for two Lugano galleries in our portfolio.

Can the site be in several languages?

Yes. Two languages are typical, such as Italian and English for the Lugano and Milan galleries we have worked with. Other languages are added with copy from you or your translator; each language has its own pages and URLs, which also help collectors searching on Google in other countries find you.

Can we sell works online or only take enquiries?

Both. Each work can have its own enquiry link, with the price shown or on request: the gallery decides, work by work. For editions, prints and catalogues, or for fixed-price works, we add an online shop with payments and shipping, from €5,000 excluding VAT.

How do you present exhibitions, fairs and viewing rooms?

With dedicated sections you update yourselves. The current exhibition sits up front, with full-screen images and versions designed for phones; fairs show dates and stand numbers, and the viewing room shows the works available. Past exhibitions stay in the archive and can keep attracting people who search for the artists on Google.

A custom site or a subscription platform for galleries?

A subscription platform offers ready-made templates for a monthly fee: it is handy for a quick start, but the design stays within the templates and switching service often means rebuilding the site. A custom site reflects the gallery's identity, with the domain in your name and content that stays yours; it costs more at the start, then a fixed yearly fee covers hosting and updates.

Do you work with galleries outside Italy?

Yes: our portfolio includes galleries in Lugano, one of them based in London until recently, looked after fully remotely like all our clients. Invoices to companies outside Italy are issued without Italian VAT, under the applicable rules: we check the tax details together before starting. Support is in Italian and English.
